The grand opening of the Recreation, Education and Kinesiology Center took place October 14, 2009, with 65 student employees of the REK Center dancing and singing “Let’s be strong, Let’s be fit, Sting ’em hard, Sting ’em hard, Let’s sting ’em hard!”

A student initiative to finance and build their own recreation center was joined by the university’s efforts to meet academic demands, resulting in the creation of one exemplary facility to serve both purposes.
