Mr. Herrera, a Brownsville native, is president of U.S. HERR Industrial Metals Co., Inc., of Brownsville. He graduated from Brownsville Pace High School in 1977 and joined the U.S. Navy where he served four years. After serving in the military, he enrolled at TSC. He later transferred to The University of Texas at Austin where he earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology in 1986. Mr. Herrera is chairman of the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation and has been on the Brownsville Economic Development Council (BEDC) since 1999. He served as chairman of the BEDC in 2002-2003 and chairman of Valley Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees in 2006. Prior to establishing his company, Mr. Herrera was director of the cardiac catheterization lab at St. Luke’s Lutheran Hospital in San Antonio.
