UTB/TSC’s music programs are a credit to the university and to Brownsville. An impressive list of state and national honors not only brings credit to the university but attracts more students every semester. The Arts Center, a new $25 million music education building and recital hall will give Scorpion musicians the specially designed rehearsal halls and teaching space they desperately need and deserve. The main recital hall will provide a stage large enough for the Bravo Opera Company, Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Master Chorale, Mariachi Escorpión, Jazz Bands and other groups that distinguish this talented department. The planning committee has selected the Brown Auditorium of The Kinkaid School in Houston as a model for The Arts Center. “The Arts Center will welcome students from the university and the community and provide outstanding venues for concerts, rehearsals, competitions, festivals, music camps and music classes,” says Dr. Sue Zanne Urbis, chair, Fine Arts Department.
