| International Technology, Education and Commerce Center |
A vital component of UTB/TSC is the International Technology, Education and Commerce (ITEC) Center, a 647,000 square-foot facility just one mile from the Fort Brown campus. Conceived as a place where education becomes a partner with business and industry, the ITEC Center includes a variety of programs aimed at assisting regional employment growth and economic development efforts. Among the programs at the ITEC Center are UTB/TSC Workforce Training and Continuing Education and the International Innovation Center, a business incubator designed to help new ventures get a solid start, particularly those seeking to partner with the growing research capabilities of UTB/TSC in information technology, the nano-sciences and biomedical technology. Helping the community conduct business internationally is another important facet of ITEC Center’s mission. The International Trade Center assists with a variety of trade support and financing programs, and the Mexican Consulate and the Brownsville Economic Development Council are also located within the ITEC Center. An extensive 50,000-square-foot remodeling was completed in January 2009 which created six large and extra-large new classrooms, as well as two seminar rooms. Aside from alleviating classroom overcrowding on the Fort Brown Campus, these facilities make the ITEC Center an ideal location for various-sized business conferences and meetings. Another addition with the remodeling is the space designed for UTB/TSC’s pre-architecture program. This includes offices and classrooms equipped with special computers as well as drafting needs.
