Karen Betancourt, J.D. Assistant Master Technical Instructor Contact Information: karen.betancourt@utb.edu 882-7526 Karen Betancourt, is a licensed attorney since 1994, received her Doctor Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center in May, 1994 and a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin in May, 1991. Ms. Betancourt currently is an Assistant Master Technical Instructor in the College of Applied Technology and General Studies in the Applied Business Technology Department as lead faculty for the Legal Studies Program. She joined the University in 2006 after 12 years as a prosecuting attorney. She also serves as the lead instructor for the UTB Pre-Law Academy. Mark Blakemore, J.D. Mark Blakemore teaches Business Law I & II and Legal Environment of Business at UTB/TSC and through The University of Texas System TeleCampus MBA Online Program. He completed Comparative Law Studies at St. Mary's University of San Antonio School of Law and Universidad de Monterrey -- Joint Venture, a J.D. Law Degree at University of Miami Coral Gables, and a B.S. in Earth Sciences degree from Texas A&M University. He has a desire to teach and serve in a creative environment to benefit business and pre-law students and the legal community. Dr. Patti Ross Salinas, J.D. Government Assistant Professor Contact Information: patti.salinas@utb.edu 882-8994 Dr. Patti Ross Salinas received her B.S. in Business from Southwest Missouri State University, her J.D. from the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Law, and her Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University. She is a former City Prosecutor and Assistant City Attorney for the City of Springfield, Missouri. Before joining the faculty in the criminal justice department at UTB she was a member of the graduate faculty for Texas State University-San Marcos. Her research interests and publications are in the areas of death row management and conditions of confinement, custodial suicides and victim compensation. Serena Putegnat, J.D. Planned Giving Specialist, Development Office Contact Information: serena.putegnat@utb.edu 882-4326 Ms. Putegnat is a Brownsville native and has been employed by UTB/TSC since 2005. She completed her undergraduate degree at Sweet Briar College in Virginia in 1998. Ms. Putegnat then pursued her law degree at South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas and graduated in 2001. After graduation, she moved back to Brownsville and worked for two different area law firms before beginning her employment at UTB/TSC. In addition to her regular duties in the Office of Institutional Advancement she also serves as an adjunct professor teaching Legal Research and Writing, and various other law related real estate courses.
