SUMMARY OF APRIL 20, 2004 MEETING

The Task Force on Tech Prep met from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm in the Young House on Tuesday April 20, 2004. This meeting was chaired by Dr. Eli Pena and Prisci Roca Tipton. At this meeting, Aracely Alvarez, Tech Prep Academic Advisor, was introduced. Aracely Alvarez has a joint appointment with Academic Advising Center and Tech Prep Office. Her primary responsibility is to provide academic advisement to those students who show Tech Prep credit on their transcripts or are declaring technical career choice.

The chairs gave highlights of the Tech Prep State Conference held on March 8-10-2004.

New website for Tech Prep, www.atc.org, will be up June 1, 2004
High Schools will now need to have proof of documentation to demonstrate teachers meeting minimum qualifications and participations of state approved training
New Teachers or Teachers renewing certification must register online via the new website www.atc.org after June 1, 2004

The Task Force reviewed the status of the 2004 Statewide/Local Articulation Agreements. A presentation at Dean's Council on the importance of updating the Statewide/Local Articulation Agreements was made by Dr. Margie Mancillas, AVP for P-16, Dr. Mancillas followed up with an email to all UTB/TSC Dean's requesting a deadline of April 23, 2004 to finalize the agreements. A tentative date was then set for the first week of May with the Task Force members to finalize agreements.

The Task Force was asked to complete the following activities before the next session:

Review their school districts calendars to begin planning for the 2004-2005 ATC Statewide Articulation Training
Review their calendar to finalize date for the next Tech Prep Task Force meeting in early May to finalize the 2004 Statewide/Local Articulation Agreements
