Kilauea Lighthouse, Kauai, Hawaii

This is the northern-most point of the main Hawaiian Islands.  The surrounding area is the Kilauea National Wildlife Refuge which was formally  a plantation town called Kilauea.  The lighthouse was built in 1913.  The clamshell lens (largest in the world) is no longer in use   A beacon is now used at the lighthouse.  While I was there, hundreds of red-footed boobies were nesting on the cliffs to the far right.
