Learning Enrichment , formerly known as the Learning Assistance Center, provides free tutorial services to currently enrolled UTB/TSC students. Services includes:

  • Labs that provide students with academic support in foreign language, mathematics, reading and writing.
  • Suplemental instruction, wich provides peer-led group study sessions to review course material and prepare for exams

Career counselors provide students with career guidance, exploration of personal interests and personality assessments. They assist with investigation of occupations/ professions and teach how to use available resources.

Career counselors help with career decision-making, goal identification and develop a plan of action for the student to reach them.

The outcome of career counseling experience should become an ideal match between student and college major or choice of occupation that will lead to a career path that will culminate in personal and professional growth and a life of personal satisfaction.

Child Care & Transportation Assistance is available to currently enrolled UTB/TSC students pursuing a Certificate or Associated of Applied Science degree non baccalaureate program. The objective of the grant is to minimize childcare and transportation obstacles students may face in order to increase the student probability of academic success and timely graduation. These services are funded by the Carl D. Perkins federal grant under the Department of Education.

Eligibility criteria, Students must:

  • Be enrolled full-time
  • Receive Federal Pell Grant
  • Have Passed the T.H.E.A. or approved alternative test
  • Be pursuing a Certificate or Associate of Applied Science Program
  • Have declared a major and must have signed the official degree plan

Academic Counseling assists students with the identification of challenges and difficulties preventing them from achieving academic success and provides timely interventions to help students develop strategies and skills necessary to meet educational objectives.
These services are delivered via:

 

1.-Early Alert Mentorship Program;

This program was piloted in the fall of 2007 with the purpose to first ensure that students achieve learning success while experiencing academic challenges in college, and secondly, to establish a solid foundation for successful future learning. The ultimate goal is to increase student retention and timely graduation The Early Alert Mentorship coordinators, identified the top 40-50 “at- risk” currently enrolled students whose GPA is below a 2.00. These students were matched with volunteer faculty and staff mentors who will assist to:

  • “Decode” the academic jargon
  • Support networking activities that encourage more involvement in college life
  • Provide opportunities to grow in the knowledge and skills necessary for academic success

2.-Early Alert for academically challenged students


Targets academically challenged students who are not meeting the new Satisfactory Academic Standards (SAP) with a timely intervention and personal consultation with the purpose of:

  • Educating them on the new standards
  • Identifying academic challenges
  • Creating an action plan
  • Developing strategies and skills necessary to meet educational objectives.
