Learning Enrichment Objectives
The learning instructional specialist will review the application and if interested in the applicant, will present the application to the assistant director. If they agree the candidate should be interviewed, the learning instructional specialist will then extend an interview to the potential tutor after verifying that the student applicant meets the following criteria:
Interviewing
Arrangements will be made to ensure that at least two full-time staff members are present during the interview. Interview questions are planned prior to the interview with the applicant and based on the following core set:
1. Why are you interested in tutoring?
2. Have you ever attended any tutorial session (including SI)? (What do you already know about tutoring?)
3. Why do you think you can be a successful tutor?
4. I see you are majoring in _______. Why did you choose that major?
5. Give me an example of a specific academic challenge that you encountered and tell me how you dealt with this challenge.
6. Tell me about the high points in your college career. The low points. Why do you consider them this way?
7. What do you think has contributed most to your academic success?
8. Describe something that you have done in the last five years that has given you the greatest personal satisfaction.
9. What extracurricular activities (if any) do you participate in and what role do you play?
10. Will you be working another job during the upcoming semester?
11. Describe a situation that required you to work with a group of people what did you find most challenging and most rewarding about this experience?
12. Program marketing is an important part of this position. The first few weeks of school, tutors give a 5-10 minute presentation of Learning Enrichment services. This initial marketing is followed up with periodic visits to the classrooms of professors who have arranged a workshop or a class visit. Tell me about
