Tutoring:

1. What subjects are tutored?

A variety of different subjects are tutored in Learning Enrichment. Tutoring for math, reading and writing is available every semester. See the reception desk in N 122 for a current tutor schedule.

2. Are tutors available in all subjects all the time?  

No, tutors are available as their schedules allow. Most of our tutors are peer tutors, so they may be in class, have meetings or other obligations. To guarantee time with a particular tutor, we encourage you to make appointments. Subject-areas tutored vary by semester. Call the reception desk at (956) 882-8208 to find out which subjects are currently tutored.

3. Why won’t my tutor write corrections on my paper?

Tutors are here to help you become independent learners while maintaining academic integrity. By evaluating our suggestions, deciding what changes you would like to make, and writing on your paper yourself, you take ownership of your work and evolve as an independent learner.

4. Why can’t I drop off my homework to be graded?

 Our goal is to help you become a better student. Dropping off assignments will prevent us from making suggestions that can help in future assignments.

1. What if Learning Enrichment doesn’t offer tutoring in the subject(s) I need?

Let a specialist know. We may be able to recruit tutors in needed areas.

6. Are study groups available?

Yes, study groups are available. If you would like to start a study group, let a tutor or specialist know, and we will be happy to accommodate you and your group.

7. Can I set up an appointment for tutoring?

Yes, see the respective lab for available times.

8. How long will my tutoring session last?

Tutoring sessions should last no longer than 30 minutes. This allows tutors to be fresh for all students and also gives students the opportunity to develop more focused questions. Students need to come prepared to ask questions to get the most benefit out of the session.
