When Choosing Childcare for your Child…

 

Remember good centers fill up fast.

  • Talk to other parents (The best advertisement is word of mouth)
  • Ask questions

Rules and Regulations are important.

  • Look for centers with clearly established guidelines
  • Sick-child policy

Ask to review their Curriculum & Philosophy.

  • Choose centers that offer a wide range of group and individual activities.
  • Ask for copy of Parent Handbook

Check for Unsafe Facilities.

  • Food preparations areas should be away from diaper changing areas and toilets
  • Staff should wash hands after every diaper change
  • Floor, walls and kitchen areas should be clean
  • Skip centers with safety problems

The Recommended ratio for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers are:

  • For Infants (0 to 12 months) 1:3 if a group of 6 infants /1:4 if a group of 8 infants
  • For Toddlers (12 to 24 months) 1:3 for 6 children / 1:4 for 8 children / 1:5 for 10 children / 1:4 for 12 children
  • For Pre-schoolers (24 to 36 months) 1:4 for 8 children / 1:5 for 10 children / 1:6 for 12 children
