What is the Early Alert Mentorship Program?
During the fall 2007 a pilot program was launched to provide students experiencing academic challenges, with a mentor willing to help establish a foundation for success in future learning. The Early Alert Mentoring pilot identified 40-50 “at risk” students and matched them with a mentor. These students are required to meet with their mentor on a regular basis.

  • Who are the Mentors?
  • Faculty/Staff willing to volunteer to help at-risk students succeed at UTB/TSC
  • Who are the Mentees?
  • Students were originally identified by the academic counselor, who willingly wished to participate in this program.

What do the Mentors do?

  • Share their experiences with students
  • Provide basic knowledge of campus departments and resources
  • Facilitate activities and plan events
  • Introduce students to the campus community

What do Mentors gain?

  • Meaningful one-on-one interaction with UTB/TSC students
  • Opportunity to make a difference
  • Satisfaction of helping someone.

What do Mentees get?

Students will be able to navigate the system, will learn about the university’s resources, understand the new academic regulations (SAP) and improve their academic standing.

What does the academic counselor do?
The academic counselor, assists students experiencing academic challenges not participating in the Mentorship program with an action plan to manage risks, learn about campus resources and assist in developing strategies and skills to complete educational objectives.

At the Student Success Center located in the MRC North Annex.
