Constitutional Amendment Referendum
HOOP 8.2.18 - Staff Senate of

Staff Senate will conduct a Constitutional Amendment Referendum during five (5) working days beginning on April 28, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. and ending on May 2, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.

Background:

  • The Staff Senate upon its own initiative reviewed the current HOOP 8.2.18 Staff Senate of The University of Texas at Brownsville and proposed amendments in content and language.
  • The Staff Senate discussed its Constitutional Amendment language in various regular meetings of the Staff Senate.
  • The Staff Senate unanimously approved the Constitutional Amendment’s language on the first reading held on Thursday, February 14, 2008.
  • The proposed Staff Senate Constitutional Amendment was approved during a second and final reading held on Tuesday, March 25, 2008.
  • The Staff Senate began planning for a referendum on the proposed Staff Senate Constitutional Amendment by all qualified staff members.

Constitutional Amendment Referendum:

  • The Staff Senate will conduct a Constitutional Amendment Referendum during five (5) working days beginning on April 28, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. and ending on May 2, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.
  • All qualifying and eligible staff members will be able to cast their individual vote during that period; only one vote per staff member will be allowed.
  • A simple majority vote, of all qualified and voting staff members, will constitute the approval or rejection of the proposed Staff Senate Constitutional Amendment.

Ratification of the Constitutional Amendment Referendum:

  • Once the proposed Staff Senate Constitutional Amendment has been affirmatively passed by the Staff Senate, the Staff Senate Chair will request that the proposed Staff Senate Constitutional Amendment language be reviewed by the Provost Council for their recommendation, for approval by the President of UTB/TSC.
  • The approved UTB/TSC Staff Senate Constitutional Amendment will then seek approval of the UT System as appropriate.
  • Once approval of the UT System has been granted, the Staff Senate Constitution language will be changed in the institutional HOOP.
