Healthy Communities of Brownsville
Our members come from local hospitals, schools, universities, churches, businesses, and service agencies. We are doctors, university professors, nurses, parents, students, teachers, clergy, and business owners. We are all different, but we share a common vision – to work together to build a better Brownsville. Our Work HCB is organized into three committees to focus on our three areas of concern: Education, Environment, and Health. Each committee – known as a Trendbender group - meets on a regular basis and has its own goals and projects. Our mission is to establish strategies, priorities and actions to improve the quality of the environment and to reduce health and education disparities in the Brownsville community. Our work is primarily youth-oriented. Education Goals are to: Educating parents and community members on how to build assets in our youth. Upcoming projects include career path seminars and career mentoring. Environment Goals are to: Brownsville city-wide clean-ups, and educating citizens about recycling and littering through public awareness campaigns. Upcoming projects include developing a pilot program for curbside recycling. Health Goals are to: Ways to get involved Contact
