ASSIGNMENT 5: Research Idea

Step 1: Write a paragraph describing the research question upon which you plan to base your literature search and final paper. Your original thoughts will be fairly broad, but you need to take the time to develop them so that they become focused and specific. The topic cannot be just a word or two. It must be a complete paragraph of two or more sentences that encapsulate a proposed research idea. For example: How many children between the ages of 10 and 20 are at risk for type II diabetes in a given population? Do not be too long, or people will lose your drift, but do not be too short or you will not communicate anything. Striking a balance may take a little work, but that is the point of the assignment.  It is more difficult to be brief but to the point, than long and windy.  this is an important  exercise in thinking and communicating precisely..

Step 2: In order to provide you with feedback on your first draft we are asking you to send your paragraph to the class listserv (phb3498@utb.edu) before Feb 18th.   Ask your classmates if they understand what you want to do.  Do they think it is an interesting and useful idea?.  The idea of passing your drafts round your friends is a very important principle of research.  Get criticisms from your friends before you get them from your enemies!!
Step 3: You will need to e-mail me sfisherhoch@utb.edu your final paragraph by February 18th. The subject line of your email should say: Research Idea Final Version
