
What is Y.E.P ?
The Youth Empowerment Program is designed to address unhealthy behaviors in youth, and provide them opportunities to learn about more positive lifestyles and enhance their capacity to make informed and healthier life choices. This grant requires a multi-partner approach involving institutions of higher education, primary and secondary schools, community organizations and institutions, and the community at-large.

Requirements
Students are required to commit five hours a week in the following areas:
Fitness and Exercise
Each student will be provided a membership to the Body Shop gym on the UTB/TSC campus.
Health and Nutrition
Students will consult with a nutritionist for individualized meal plans.
Cultural Enrichment
Students will be taken to four local cultural events in a year (cost will be provided by YEP)
Career Exploration
Advisors from UTB/TSC will help students find the right career for them.
Mentoring
Healthy Communities of Brownsville will provide students with mentoring sessions that will discuss risk behaviors and how to prevent them.
Character Development
Brownsville Police Department will hold session that will inform students on topics such as, violence prevention, gangs, drugs, etc.
Weekly Tutoring
Tutors will be provided to help students succeed academically.
