TUTORING AT VUB
At Veterans Upward Bound, trained tutors assist you with assignments for courses across the disciplines and help you develop the skills necessary to succeed in college.
There are two types of tutoring sessions offered to students.
a) Drop-in tutoring is available for first-time comers only. No exceptions will be made. These sessions are shorter (25-30 minutes) than weekly scheduled appointments.
b) Weekly appointments (up to two scheduled appointments per week) are 50 minutes sessions scheduled one-day in advance.
To make an appointment, please contact the VUB office, preferably 1 day in advance, during office hours. Appointments may be scheduled in person at the VUB Office ( Old Student Center , room 103); by phone (calling at (956) 983-7608); or by e-mail (writing to pmartinez1@utb.edu ). A staff member will look for a time slot that matches your schedule.

GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS
Come to VUB as soon as you have trouble - avoid procrastination and
don't wait until the last minute.
Be prepared. Bring textbooks and other necessary materials.
Allow enough time for tutoring: you will have to wait if the tutors are busy.
Work on your own until the tutor arrives.
DON'T EXPECT ANSWERS: tutors will ask questions that will help you
solve problems.
Assistance take-home exams cannot be given
Be patient with the tutors and yourself. Some problems are not easily
solved.
If you feel you are been overlooked by the tutors let a staff member know.
We try to maintain a first-come, first-serve basis.
Don't expect your tutor to know everything. He/She may also have to seek
help.
OTHER PLACES FOR SEEKING HELP
The Learning Assistance Center (LAC) staff includes mathematics tutors and instructional specialist who can provide additional support for you. It is highly encouraged that you visit them early and often. The LAC is located in the North building. Additionally, special software is available in the LAC and in the Library that is designed to provide tutorials, drill, and practice for textbook(s) material.
