The University Scorpion Scholars (USS) is designed to assist students awarded the University Scorpion Scholars Scholarship.  The program will successfully retain them in college, help them learn how to take advantage of the campus resources and opportunities, provide a program advisor, create service learning opportunities, learning communities and connect them to different aspects of campus life.  The program keeps track of their academic performance and involvement.  The scholars will be given the right tools, and right type of encouragement, to take responsibly for their learning and student development. The program offer opportunities for growth and leadership through workshops, travel, programs and events.  The student scholars in the program act as peer mentors for other students.

 

Mission Statement
The mission of the Scorpion Scholars Program is to have a positive impact in the lives of our students so that they may successfully complete their academic goals.   The Scorpion Scholars program will create learning communities, a mentoring program, and offer several civic engagement projects.


Goals

  • Develop and implement a mentoring component.
  • Advance and employ learning communities.
  • Develop a research agenda that will provide a framework for decision making
  • Increase retention rates to positively impact students by providing incoming freshman and new transfer students an opportunity to learn from university student mentors who serve as coaches, role models, and advisors
  • Promote and Engage student in campus and community resources, student organizations, & Civic Engagement
