Who is required to enroll in the STING Peer Mentor Program (NCB 1000)?

Any first- time college student who has failed at least one section of the THEA test (or alternative exam) must enroll in STING (NCB 1000)

 

Are transfer students required to enroll in STING (NCB 1000)?

No, transfer students are not required to enroll in STING, unless they have failed at least one section of the THEA test (or alternative exam) must enroll in STING (NCB 1000).

 

If I have passed all three sections of the THEA test, am I still required to enroll in STING (NCB 1000)?

No, if you have passed all three sections of the THEA test, you are not required to enroll in STING (NCB 1000), but this class is a great help for students that are making the transition to college from high school.  The skills students learn in STING will help make them a successful college student.

 

Do I have to enroll in the STING Peer Mentor Program (NCB 1000) every semester until I pass the THEA test?

No, you are only required to enroll in STING (NCB 1000) during your first semester if you have not passed at least one section of the THEA test. STING class places special emphasis on THEA preparation and goes beyond just tutoring in particular subject area.  If a student feels that he/she will benefit from a second semester in STING they can register to take advantage of the specialized assistance with THEA preparation.

 

If I plan to enroll in a program of study that does not require that I take the THEA test, am I still required to enroll in STING (NCB 1000)?

No, THEA waived programs do not require enrollment in STING (NCB 1000)

 

If I pass the THEA test during my first semester, can I drop the STING lab?

No, students must remain in STING and continue to attend their assigned lab until the end of the semester.

 

Will I receive a letter grade at the end of the semester for STING?

No, you will receive an “S” – for Satisfactory or a “U” – for Unsatisfactory.

 

What if I am THEA Exempt, do I have to enroll in STING (NCB 1000)?

No, you are not required to enroll in STING (NCB 1000).

 

What if I failed one section of THEA by a couple of points, do I still have to be enrolled?

Yes, STING (NCB 1000) is required for all incoming freshmen who have not passed one section of the THEA.

 

What if I fail the STING (NCB 1000) Lab?

If you receive a "U" for Unsatisfactory, then you will be required to take the lab again in the following semester. Unless you pass the THEA.
