How Can I Get Involved?
The SGA is a group of students charged with representing our entire student body. If you feel that you would like to be a part of this important part of campus life, it's actually pretty simple. Just follow these steps:
1. Figure out what you'd like to do.
This can be the toughest part. You may not even know what the SGA does, much less how you might fit in with its mission. This website can be very helpful, especially the sections on What is SGA? and Governing Documents. Don't hesitate to stop by the office, Suite 2.10 in the Student Union, or shoot us an email with questions. We're always glad to help.
2. Find out what it takes.
Becoming a Student Senator is very different from running for Student Body President, and seeking a position on the Volunteer Staff is not the same process as that for the Executive Staff. Again, the Governing Documents are going to be your best help. If they seem too dry or full of legalese, just ask for clarification. For Student Senators, you'll have to be either elected or appointed by the Student Government President.
3. Take your place as a leader on campus.
The SGA welcomes anyone with the drive and dedication to serve our student body. Be sure, though, that your position is not a resume-builder or a hobby. You will have been elected or appointed to serve the best interests of the students, any we hope that you will take that charge seriously.
