Assessment Process
The Division of Student Affairs ensures that graduates of UTB/TSC are assessed against the priority expected student learning outcomes through multiple assessment methods producing varied qualitative and quantitative information. Each department, program, and service within the division contributes to the overall efforts to enhance the achievement of the learning outcomes, with specific efforts aimed toward the student groups and cohorts participating or engaged in each Student Affairs area. The following processes summarizes the process each unit follows to identify, support, and assess SLOs specific to each program, service, or activity:
Department staff for each Student Affairs program, service, and activity work together to identify the learning outcome(s) that are best encouraged and developed by each component of the unit. The department staff articulates meanings and definitions of the learning outcome(s) specific to their activities and responsibilities. This is the first step and a key element in the development of an plan to assess each SLO adopted by the individual departments.
To visually demonstrate the extent to which each of the priority SLOs within the division are being targeted and the focus of each department, the grid below depicts the five priority learning outcomes and those individual SLOs that each department, program or service will commit to developing in students and assessing to determine the impact of each on student development. The grid provides a comprehensive overview of the work of the Division of Student Affairs with respect to the learning process.
Each department is responsible for collecting data that demonstrates the impact of deliberate services and activities designed to promote their targeted SLO. Data is collected within the timeframes indicated in each department’s SLO Plan, analyzed by departmental staff, and reported on in the biennial Student Learning Outcomes Report of Results to provide evidence of the departments’ impact upon learning. The reports provide periodic opportunities for the Division of Student Affairs to examine those areas that demonstrate success and significant impact on student learning as well as those areas that require attention and improvement
