Job Opening - Peer Mentor for Spring 2008

Dear Students and Colleagues,

Job Description     

Position: 

Peer Mentor- Part-Time (LAMP or STING)

Reports to:

Program Coordinator – Sergio Martinez

Scope:

Serve as mentor/role model to first-time freshmen students by following their progress with grades, weekly meetings, and how they are coping with their transition to “university life.” Responsible for record keeping involved with student contact(s)/office appointment(s).  Mentors will also be responsible for presentations and research projects.

Education/
Experience

Successful candidate must have at least 30 college credit hours, a minimum GPA of 3.0 and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate must also be familiar with numerous campus resources.  Training will be provided.

Requirements

Must meet Texas Success Initiative policies ( Pass/Exempt from Thea/Compass Exam.).  Must comply with UTB/TSC Academic Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards.  Must be working towards your first associates or bachelors degree.  Student must be in an undergraduate program, graduate students can not apply.

Salary:

$6.00 - $8.00 / hr   - 10 to 30 hours a week.

 

Peer Mentor Requirements

  • Complete 30 college credit hours

  • Enrolled for a minimum of 12 hours per semester (except in last graduating semester) at UTB/TSC

  • 3.0 Cumulative GPA

  • Comply with TSI & SAP

  • Criminal Background Check.

  • Must remain in good standing with the university, no holds, no disciplinary or academic prohibition.

Peer Mentor Continued Eligibility Requirements

  • Must maintain an 2.75 semester GPA

  • Complete 100% of attempted hours

  • Must remain in good standing with the university, no holds, no disciplinary or academic prohibition.

  • Must demonstrate participation in UTB/TSC Student Life or Civic Engagement through leadership actions and volunteering.
