What is SI?
An academic intervention program that
increases student performance and retention, SI targets high-risk courses
and provides regularly scheduled, out of class, peer facilitated, group
study sessions integrating study skills within the content material of the
targeted course.
The SI Leader is a student who has previously taken and successfully
completed the course. He or she is recommended by the instructor and takes
part in a training program focusing on how students learn, instructional
strategies, data collection and management skills.
SI Leaders attend all classes, take notes and tests, read all assigned
material, and facilitate three 50-minute study sessions per week. The role
of the SI Leaders is to provide structure in the study sessions, focusing
on study skills such as note-taking, reading and marking the text, and
preparing for exams.
