Welcome to American Sign Language Interpreting Services

Mentoring Opportunities

Do you feel that your signing skills are above the conversational level?  Have you taken ASL I, ASL II, and ASL III?  If  you can answer yes to either one of these questions, you may qualify for the Interpreting Services  Mentorship Program.

What is mentorship?  A mentorship is a goal-oriented relationship between a mentor and a second individual who seeks to learn and grow through association with that mentor.  Our program is designed to enhance the signing skills you have already acquired through one-on-one instruction along with self-paced activities.  Mentees have an opportunity to:

  • Access valuable information, support, and encouragement
  • Gain a smoother entry into the interpreting field
  • Look at interpreting from another’s perspective
  • Challenge themselves to continue developing professionally
  • Experience real-life interpreting with immediate feedback and guidance
  • Observe expert modeling to emulate

Mentees also have access to our ASL Resource Center.  Some of the resources available include access to a computer, television, DVD player, videotape player, a video camera with recording ability, books, videotapes, DVDs, articles, etc.  These are free resources available to you Monday thru Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.

We encourage those who qualify to express interest, and fill out a mentee application by simply visiting our office.  Our team at UTB/TSC Interpreting Services is committed to giving back to the American Sign Language community and we promote professional development as a means to ensure equal access for communication for years to come.
