Services Provided
The Counseling Center provides comprehensive services ranging from individual and group counseling, educational programs, assessment and diagnostic services, and crisis management. Students are able to access counseling services between the hours of 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Friday. Crisis management consultation services are also available after hours to assist the housing staff with situations that arise in campus housing. Students are typically seen once a week for 50 minutes. When necessary, the frequency can be increased.
The counseling center does not have session limits or a fee for service.
Description of services:
Crisis counseling: The Counseling Center staff respond to all mental health crisis situations on campus. Immediate appointments are made available for students exhibiting significant levels of distress. The Counseling Center staff are also available for after hours consultation for the students living in campus housing.
Individual counseling: Students are typically seen once a week for 50 minutes. Students are allowed one visit per week, although in a crisis situation additional sessions may be scheduled. Students need to be currently enrolled.
Couples counseling: Students are provided with couples, marital, and family counseling. In order to qualify for services, one of the individuals must be a currently enrolled UTB/TSC student.
Group counseling: During the course of the academic year, several topic specific groups are offered. The topics range from anxiety management, stress reduction, women’s issues, and gay, lesbian and bisexual support group. The group meets once a week and are open ended. Screening is required for group participation.
Psychological Assessment: Psychological assessment is offered to help with diagnostic evaluation and also for learning disabilities. Ongoing evaluations are also conducted to monitor therapeutic progress and outcome.
Referral: The Counseling Center staff provide faculty, staff and students with referrals to private and state offices in the community. The center keeps an updated referral guide which helps guide individuals to additional services.
