The Recreational Sports Department held its Spring Volleyball Tournament on March 2, 2007 on the South Lawn where several teams battled for bragging rights and a team trophy.  The tournament was a great opportunity for students and staff members to come together and have some fun before the start of mid terms.  The setup was a best of 3 matches’ single elimination tournament that included rally scoring up to 20 points having to win by two points.

The tournament started off with 7 teams that all had their sights on the team trophy and shirts but when all was said and done team “You Got Served” were victorious in a great championship game.  “You Got Served” led by team co-captains Marisa Guerrero and Mario Martinez faced a tough opponent, team “Showstoppers” led by Christina Casanova and Yessica Anglada, in the championship game.  The championship had to go to a decisive 3rd match with both teams showing great team work and determination.  The 1st match went to the “Showstoppers” but “You Got Served” came roaring back and swept the last 2 matches to take home the victory.  Jenny Duke along with Vicenta Fernandez provided some great serving scores and set ups for “You Got Served”.  Rene Zayas, Julio Ledezma, and Mary Lou Canales also had some great saves, defensive stops and drop shots throughout the entire tournament. 

The Recreational Sports Department would like to thank all the teams that participated in the tournament and would also like to congratulate “You Got Served” for being our 2007 Spring Volleyball Champions.  We would also like to commend all teams that participated and helped make this tournament possible.  Our staff and department strongly encourage all students and staff to form teams to participate in our up coming events that Recreational Sports will be offering.
