Scorpions Begin Inaugural NAIA Campaign Friday
The UTB/TSC Women's Volleyball Team begins a new era in Scorpion athletics at the Second Annual South Padre Island International Women's Volleyball Tournament Friday and Saturday.
The tournament marks the first competition for the Scorpions in any sport in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). For decades, the Scorpions competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) until May.
And fittingly, the Scorpions will be challenged immediately in the new division, facing Houston Baptist, the sixth-ranked NAIA team in the country. It's the first match of the tournament at 12 noon Friday at the South Padre Island Convention Center.
Six teams will be participating. Huston-Tillotson, Texas A&M-International, Monterrey Tec and the University of Tampico round out the field. UTB/TSC, Houston Baptist and Huston-Tillotson are members of the Red River Athletic Conference.
Admission to the tournament is $5 for adults per day and $3 for children. UTB/TSC students, faculty and staff are admitted with Sting Card ID.
