2001 Scorpion Baseball Team

Former Scorpion baseball players Gilbert Gonzales (2B) and Carlos Trevino (C/OF) have transfered to play at Huston-Tillotson College i Austin. They join 2002-2003 Scorpion Hiram Lopez (P), who will be a senior at HTC in 2004-2005.

Gilbert Gonzales played high school baseball at La Feria High School where he won two bi-district championships, earned the individual honors of All-District shortstop and second base, 1999 MVP, 1999 All-Area Pitcher, and 1999 All-State. Gilbert hit .332, had 27 RBI, and 2 HR for his Scorpion career. Gilbert is the son of Gilbert and Susie Gonzales.

Carlos Trevino played high school baseball at Sharyland High School where he earned the honors of 2002 All-Valley Catcher and 2001 All-Area Outfielder. Carlos hit .335, had 19 RBI and 2 HR for his Scorpion career. Carlos is the son of Agapito and Diana Trevino.

Gutierrez Named MVP of Double A All-Star Game
Former Scorpion baseball player, Jesse Gutierrez (McAllen, TX) was named the Most Valuable Player of the Southern League All-Star Game in Chattanooga, TN, on Tuesday (July 13).
Gutierrez, a member of the Chattanooga Lookouts (Cincinnati Reds' Double-A organization), fell a triple short of a cycle as he finished the game with three hits en route to helping the East Division to a 10-6 win over the West Division.
In his third season in the minor leagues, Gutierrez is currently having a standout season as he is batting .295 with 13 home runs and 59 runs batted in. He has 25 doubles and 58 runs scored for the Lookouts. Chattanooga ranks second in the East Division of the Southern League with a 13-6 record. 
Gutierrez played for the Scorpion from 1998-1999.

Freshman shortstop Kyle Jones has signed a letter of intent to continue his college playing career at Oklahoma State University. Jones hit .373 this spring with 2 homeruns and 26 RBIs. Jones led the team in games played, batting average, hits, doubles, RBIs, total bases, slugging, and stolen bases. The Scorpions wish Jones the best of luck next season.

As of July 14, 2004, Kyle Jones has 27 hits in 93 at bats with 11 runs batted in. Jones is also 8 for 9 in stolen base attempts.
The Beatrice baseball team in the Mink League has a roster that contains players from The University of Texas Longhorns, Nebraska, and several other colleges from around the country.
Kyle Jones will be playing for the Big 12 Champion Oklahoma State University Cowboys in 2005. Kyle played SS for the Scorpions in 2004 and played at Cinco Ranch High School in the Houston area.
Kyle is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jones of Katy, TX.
Former Scorpions Help Lead Roadrunners to First Half Crown
Scorpion baseball alumni Julio Ruiz, Eric Gonzalez, and Hector Garanzuay helped lead the Edinburg Roadrunners to a first half championship.
Scorpion Alumni, Julio Ruiz, Brownsville, TX (Lopez HS), has pitched his way into the Edinburg Roadrunners starting rotation. Ruiz played for the Scorpions from 2002-2003. Ruiz is 4-3 with a 2.40 ERA, in 56.1 innings, and 47 K's.
Ruiz is joined on the Roadrunners by OF, Eric Gonzalez, La Feria, TX. Gonzalez played for the Scorpions from 1998-2000. Gonzalez is hitting .297, with 19 2B's, 4 HR's, and 31 RBI.
Roadrunner shortstop, Hector Garanzuay, Brownsville, TX (Pace HS), is also playing his first season with the Roadrunner. Garanzuay played for the Scorpions from 1999-2002. Garanzuay played his final year of college baseball at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. Garanzuay is hitting .290 with 7 2B's 2 HR's, and 16 RBI. The
Edinburg Roadrunners play in the Western Division of the Central League. The Roadrunners were the first half champions with a record of 33-14.
