UTPA Second Annual Shootout

UTPA hosted its second annual South Texas Shootout that involved four South Texas colleges which included TSTC, STC, UTB-TSC, and UTPA. Each college was represented by two teams which competed in pool play where the top seeds then competed in a 4 team shootout bracket.

2007 Spring Semester Basketball League

The Campus Recreation Department held its annual Spring Semester Basketball League which took place at the Manuel Garza Gym. A total of 21 teams participated in the league, the most ever by the Campus Recreation Department, and allowed over 100 participants participated in a 3 on 3 Basketball League that would finish with a tournament held on the last Friday of February 2007. The total included 16 men’s teams and 5 co-ed teams that would battle it out to enter the tournament as only the top 10 teams would advance in the Men’s Division while all would enter the tournament in the Co-ed Division.

Spring Volleyball Tournament

The Recreational Sports Department held its Spring Volleyball Tournament on March 2, 2007 on the South Lawn where several teams battled for bragging rights and a team trophy.  The tournament was a great opportunity for students and staff members to come together and have some fun before the start of mid terms.  The setup was a best of 3 matches’ single elimination tournament that included rally scoring up to 20 points having to win by two points.

Get out and play!

This week, in honor of St. Valentine, guys and girls all over campus will be staring deeply into each others’ eyes. And if you happen to be one of the few ladies playing intramural basketball, you will be doing the same right before you pull up for that jump-shot in his face. UTB/TSC’s Campus Recreation Sports Department has begun its intramural sports for the spring semester with the beginning round of recreational basketball, run by Student Development Specialist Roel Gutierrez. Gutierrez has been with the Department, headed by Sports Program Coordinator Albert Martinez, since September 2005.

Going for the bowl

Jose Hernandez (right) of the Sharks tries to intercept a pass to Eloy Cano of Most Wanted during the men’s flag football championship Oct. 29. Most Wanted won the tournament 24-0. Both teams will compete at the Valley Bowl Flag Football Championship at the University of Texas-Pan American on Saturday. Rec Hazard won the co-ed championship, defeating the Blue Devils 14-6.
