ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT OF STUDENT AFFAIRS

The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas
Southmost College is a unique institution in many
ways and offers prospective and active students
numerous opportunities to explore and appreciate
higher education. Welcoming you to learn more
about UTB/TSC through the Student Affairs website
and inviting you to join us on our historic and
beautiful campus may lead you to a future you never
imagined.
Through TRIO outreach programs selected students in
area communities become directly affiliated with UTB/TSC
beginning in middle school. TRIO programs include
Talent Search, Classic Upward Bound, and Upward
Bound Math & Science. Early college planning
beginning no later than seventh grade and continuing
throughout high school sets the foundation for
success in higher education.
A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grant
to the Student Affairs Division provides services
for selected Lopez High School students. The goal
of that initiative is to promote healthy lifestyles
among students aspiring for success. A wide variety
of planned activities will bring participating
students to the UTB/TSC campus over a three year
period.
All students attending UTB/TSC enjoy the benefits of
support services to help them succeed in college and
some of those are included under the Student Success
component. They are the Learning Assistance Center
that focuses on tutorial assistance and the
Counseling Center where career and academic guidance
along with auxiliary services are available. There
are also opportunities for qualifying students to
receive tutorial assistance and mentoring on campus
through ASPIRE, Veterans Upward Bound, and CAMP
programs. The latter is a special program available
only to migrant students.
Regardless of whether you are seeking a one year
certificate, a doctoral degree or an associate,
bachelor or master degree along the way, UTB/TSC
affords you the opportunity for a better future
through higher education. In Student Affairs we are
here to make your college experience one that is
successful and enriches the strong academic
preparation you will receive at UTB/TSC in order to
compete in our global society.
If you have any compliments or concerns regarding
Student Affairs please feel free to share them with
me via email, telephone or in person. I look
forward to seeing you on campus.
Best wishes for continued success,
John Feist |
