1. Disney Internships
The Disney Corporation has accepted several UTB/TSC students for their
College Internship Program. The experience has been positive for
our students. Disney has been so pleased with UTB/TSC students that
they have accepted a disproportionate number from our campus into subsequent
cohorts. Representatives from Disney want to discuss options for
granting academic credit for these internships. Accordingly,
Disney representatives will be on the UTB/TSC campus May 16.
They will first meet with the Provost and President. From 12:00 –
3:00 they will meet with deans and faculty (lunch included). Please
RSVP to Dean Zimmerman ASAP.
2. E-mail to all faculty (W. Lewis)
The Provost requested that options (in addition to the current practice
that all such mail goes through Academic Computing) be explored for sending
email messages to all faculty. However, Wayne Lewis raised the concern
of security – who would be authorized (and responsible) for messages that
go out from various campus sources? It was the consensus of the group
that Academic Computing should continue to serve as the sole portal for
these messages. However, steps will be taken to allow that messages
from the President and Provost offices will be so identified.
3. Deans and Chairs Workshop (R. Rodrigues)
The Provost requested suggestions for topics for July 2000 Deans and
Chairs workshop. The following potential topics were listed:
Dual Enrollment
TECH PREP
Sexual Harassment
Teaching Excellence
Expectations & Standards
Legislative Briefing
SCANS
Integrating GENED competencies throughout the major
Motivational Speaker
Time Management
Team Building Exercises
Opportunity to set goals for each department
Benchmarking
Best practice in faculty searches
Effective partnerships with support staff
Best practices in program reviews
Deans were asked to poll their chairs for potential topics and
forward them to the
Provost.
4. Budget Items (V. Fuhro)
Victor emphasized the following guidelines for search teams:
? UTB/TSC faculty should not use personal credit cards to purchase
airfare or lodging for candidates.
? The number of people included for search team lunches or dinners
should be limited to six (6)
In addition, Victor advised that the Division of Academic Affairs funds
that are used to reimburse for meals and lodging are almost depleted.
Meeting adjourned at 10:45 a.m.
