Deans' Council
6 May 1999
 

Present:  Doug Ferrier, Cindy Lerma, Victor Fuhro, Sylvia Peña, José Martín, Farhat Iftekharrudin, Marilyn Dyer, Wayne Lewis, Betsy Boze

1. Enrollment Report:  Cindy reported on summer enrollments.  Ray reported on changes for fall registration.

2. High School Recruiting:  Betsy presented the School  of Business recruiting schedule for the rest of the semester and invited the deans to send other faculty along with her's.

3. VPBA Search:  José reported on the status of the search.

4. Faculty Searches:  Ray reported on the status of the searches.

5. Summer offerings:  The deans made a number of recommendations on how to improve summer recruiting and on problems encountered by people trying to register.  José and Marilyn will draft a set of recommendations for the vice presidents.

6. VP External Affairs:  The President will make an announcement tomorrow.

7. Faculty Office Space:  Ray will give recommendations to Tony Zavaleta for SUAC.  Other suggestions:  use the Catholic Diocese building.   We discussed faculty blocking the windows to their offices with posters and pictures and decided that each dean will discuss the potential problems with doing so when they meet with their chairs.

8. Faculty merit process:  We will appoint a four person faculty task force to recommend improvements.

9. Board Presentations:  Ray asked the deans to review the presenations before they are given in case any major problems are inherent in the presentation.

10. Social Events for Faculty:  The deans recommended a major social event for families of faculty.   Ray suggested open houses and a year long competition pitting colleges against schools, etc.
