Deans’ Council Meeting, March 25, 1999

1. Department Chairs/Department Heads: Members discussed department chair/head duties and compensation options.

2.  Staff ARCs’ Salaries and Budget: Members discussed the appropriate position title and salary for staff ARC positions.  These would be full-time, 12-month positions.  Sylvia Peña and Carolyn Green will draft a position description for a senior academic advisor.

3. Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award: Deloria Nanze-Davis, Abel Hinojosa, and Zelma Mata were recommended as nominees for the award.

4. CASE Professor of the Year Award: No recommendation was made.

5. Distance Education Information Forms: Carolyn Green explained that the additional form was created to collect information to be included in the distance education section of the course schedule.

6. Secondary Education Degree: Sylvia Peña reported that the School of Education has recommended that the professional development sequence for secondary education be increased from 18 to 24 hours.  The recommendation is that this take effect in Fall 1999.  Sylvia Peña, José Martín, Farhat Iftekharuddin, and Carolyn Green will meet to discuss the effect this would have on degree programs in the colleges.

7. Grievance Process: Ray Rodrigues distributed a copy of a grievance policy sent out by UT System for review and comment.  José Martín expressed concern about the effect the policy could have on the normal tenure review process.  Ray will convey the concern to UT System.
