MOON COLONIZATION

Introduction   Task    Process    Resources    Evaluation   Conclusion

Introduction:

Have you ever wanted to visit the man on the moon? If you have ever dreamed of visiting the moon-- What would it be like? Where does he live? How does he live? What does he eat? Let's join the man on the moon and find out how he lives.

Task:

What is required to establish a colony on the moon based on the basic needs to survive - food, water, oxygen, shelter, and people?

Process:

In order to determine whether it is feasible to establish a moon colony, we need to explore various topics but first we will divide the class into groups of four to explore the feasibility together. Each group will explore and find answers to the following questions:

1. Determine the availability of food for the colonists. Explore hypdroponics techniques or feasibility of importation of food stuffs.

2. Is there sufficient oxygen? Where can it be found and contained?

3. Given the 400 deg Farenhiet temperature variation of the moon, how can we live? What will the shelters look like?

4. How many people will a colony require to be self-sufficient? Who will they be and how will we determine migration patterns to expand the colony?

Evaluation:

Develop a multi-media presentation (power point or other media) with answers to the questions provided in the process section of this webquest. Part of presentation will be to present a drawing of your conception of a moon colony.
