Cielito!

July 2003

A typical Cielito trip consists of a hike to Nacimiento, a sinkhole filled with water that may be more than 300 feet deep.  On the way out of the ranch, there are some spectacular mountain views and a great diversity of fauna and flora to snap some shots at.

Don't get bit by one of these; it hurts.

Horses are a must for most of the local ranchers.  They not only serve as work vehicles but great companions as well.

Because Cielito is at the base of the mountain, it is much easier to leave camp and drive to other amazing places.  One place not too far away is Las Pozas de James in Xilitla, San Luis Potosi.

On the way back to the ranch, you might stop at a village that lives on the mountain side.  In Xilitla stands a church that dates as far back as AD1500.  In front of the church stands a monument to Edward James in the fashion of his whimsical architecture.

Another stop you might make (if you're lucky and have enough time) is at El Salto.  If you catch it during the rainy season like we did, you're in for a real treat.
