Where Do I Submit my
Vita
and Cover Letter?
Submit
your vita to the Adjunct Professor Office in one of the
following formats:
- U.S.
Mail:
Human Resources
UTB/TSC
Cortez Building - Suite 129
80 Fort Brown, Brownsville, TX 78520
- Hand Delivery: The office hours are
8:00
a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone number is (956)
882-8205. The Office of Human Resources is located on Cortez Building -
Suite 129.
May I contact the Department Chair directly before I do all the
paperwork?
Yes
you may and it is a good idea to build a relationship with the
Department Chair. But don't stop there. They may not know
of all the openings in which you may be qualified. By sending in
your information to Human Resources, your information will be more broadly distributed and
archived.
After you have completed your paperwork it
is advisable to contact the Program Chair for an interview in
order for them to get to know more about you. They will also be able to
discuss future openings.
What
happens to my vita and cover letter after it is
submitted?
Your
name and qualifications are entered into our database and your vita
goes into a file at the Part Time Faculty Office. An email notice goes
out to all program chairs informing them of persons who have applied. A
copy of your vita is sent to individual program chairs and to the
departments who are interested in your vita.
What is the usual length of time before
I will hear a
response?
It
depends on the match between your qualifications and when openings occur. As openings
occur, Department Chairs will search the database for persons
whose qualifications match the opening.
If I don't hear from anyone does that mean
UTB/TSC is not interested in my qualifications?
No,
it means that we don't have an opening. The names on our database will
stay current for two years. If an opening has not occurred for you and
you still want to be on the list, please contact us to keep your
information current. Don't give up. Teaching at UTB/TSC is
worth the wait. It is a good idea to contact the Part Time Faculty
Support Office to check on the status of your information.
Also, if you applied over a year ago, it is a good idea to update your
information. This puts your resume back on the top of the pile.
Do I need to have teaching experience?
No,
however it certainly helps. If you do not have experience, we will ask
that you take some of our teaching workshops or join our discussion
groups that are offered to all staff. During your personal
orientation the Part Time Faculty Support person will discuss what
support services you may need. At that time a plan will be made
to help you with your teaching experiences.
We offer ongoing support and training
thorough workshops, orientations, faculty meetings, electronic course
management, email, library and database training, audio and visual
services.
Can I teach in my
area or on-line?
We have the traditional classroom
instruction, but we also have on-line courses, hybrid courses that are
a combination of technology and classroom instruction. We also
teach courses throughout the Rio Grande Valley, and local high schools.
