Selection Process
Once students submit all their information the USS office, a selection committee composed of students, faculty and staff will select students to be awarded the scholarship. Students will be notified via US Postal Mail if they were selected for the scholarship.
Students have a limited amount of time to accept the scholarship. It is the applicant’s responsibility to contact the university to verify application status and finalize acceptance. Students will be notified via e-mail and mail.
Student’s information is confidential and will not be shared over the phone or via email. Students may come in person, provide proper identification, and be given access to their status.
If students are not initially accepted in the first round, their might still be open slots at a later time depending on the number of students who did not accept the scholarship. Application to the USS program is not a guarantee of receipt of award and is a competitive process.
As mentioned, the selection process for this scholarship is very competitive. Each application is reviewed thoroughly and ranked based on five dimensions. These include the following:
1. ACADEMICS
High School Grade Point Average and Class Ranking.
2. LETTER OF INTENT
This letter is you personal essay. This is your time to shine. Impress us.
3. CIVIC ENGAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP
List any and all community or leadership involvement.
4. LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION
Make sure your letter is personalized and highlights your accomplishments and rational why you should be selected to receive this scholarship. You will need at least two letters of recommendation, but no more than five will be accepted in your packet.
5. IMPACT TO OUR CAMPUS
List any areas of particular interest to our campus. Will you be majoring in math or science? Will you be one of our student athletes, music majors, physics, or chess players? Do you plan to be a student leader on our campus? If so, list all applicable experiences that have prepared you to become an active student leader on our campus.
