On Campus Housing

See examples and explanations listed below.

Fees Not Covered
Award does not pay for the $50 Scorpiontation Fee, $20 Housing Application Fee, $20 parking permit fee, Late Registration Fee, Add and Drop Fees and $200 refundable housing deposit or any parking fines.  Any damages caused by students while attending UTB/TSC are the responsibility of that student.

Student Loans

Any student loans a student receives will not be used toward a student’s cost.

Other Financial Scholarships, Grants and Aid
Our program is not aware of what other aid a students may receive.  Our program always guarantees funding for tuition and fees, books and supplies, and student housing, but will not always use our funds to pay for those cost directly.   All students must exhaust any other sources of aid first before our funds are applied.  In order to sustain our program and budget we must apply any other aid the student may receive first.

All financial aid funds (grants, scholarships) received by the student will be applied first before the USS scholarship funds are applied. The Federal Financial Aid Pell Grant, Texas Grant, other grants, and any scholarships, waivers, sponsorships, or exemptions the student receives will be used to cover the initial cost (tuition, fees, books and housing) before the scholarship is applied. If all incoming aid, excluding the USS scholarship, exceeds the students cost, then the student keeps the remainder.
Please note this also applies to any financial aid you apply to during the semester, or that you receive late in the semester.  These awards may be applied retroactively as we receive them.

Incentive Programs
Students receiving scholarship or stipends from incentives programs like the Scorpion Ambassadors, Civic Engagement Scholars, Student Government Association, and the Orientation Leaders will not be applied first towards the students initial cost to attend our institution.

Scenarios
(Below are examples and reflect estimates of cost and awards. Cost may vary per student)
Example 1:  If John Smith (Student) is a Scorpion Scholar and receives $1000.00 from the Pell Grant, and $500 dollars from Coca Cola scholarship and his expenses for the fall semester include $2100.00 for tuition and fees, 1150.00 for a double occupancy room at student housing, and $500 to cover books and supplies, then our program would pay $2,250  to cover his total cost and give him some money to cover his books and supplies. See Breakdown below.  (Note: The $500 in books and supplies the student receives would be a check sent to directly to the student.)

Student Housing
Students must notify the Scholarship Program Advisor if they are planning to reside in student housing before they register and fill out a housing contract to make sure housing costs will be paid for by the University Scorpion Scholars program.  If a student registers for housing but does not check in, checks out early or does not use the housing service, then the student will be responsible for any charges incurred by housing and the scholarship will not cover these costs. In addition, failure to notify the University Scorpion Scholars in writing by the 12th class day that you will be staying at housing will result in the loss of your scholarship and repayment of housing at the students cost.
