The $26 million, 150,000-square-foot
Recreation, Education Kinesiology Center (REK) will house the Health and
Human Performance Department and a student fitness/recreation center.
The first wing will include
classrooms and faculty offices and laboratories where students and faculty
can engage in research on important issues in the community, among them
childhood obesity and diabetes.
The second wing will include
basketball/volleyball courts, racquetball courts, a weight room, a cardio
area, an indoor track and a multipurpose exercise room. Baseball and soccer
fields will anchor the facility just south of the building.
The REK Center is scheduled to open
Spring 2009.
