ARCC Scholarship Program Deadline Approaches
High School seniors can become a part of ground breaking research in gravitational wave astronomy through the UTB/TSC ARCC Scholars program. Deadline to apply is Friday, April 4.

Guitar Festival Highlights Patron of the Arts
The month of March will feature a four-day guitar festival beginning Wednesday, March 26. Concerts, performances and competition highlight this festival, now in its seventh year.

UTB/TSC doctoral students attend AERA meeting
The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College sent four of its 15 doctoral students to attend the American Education Research Association‘s 89th annual meeting in New York City until Thursday, March 27.

UTB/TSC Research Symposium 2008
Student and faculty will present their research at 10th annual research symposium from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, March 28, in the Student Union - El Gran Salon.

UTB/TSC and DHS agree to study border security alternatives
Brownsville Federal Judge Andrew Hanen dismissed a civil action suit Wednesday, March 19 against The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College after the University and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security reached an agreement regarding access to University property.

Women’s Art, Women’s Vision Exhibit Ends Friday
More than 33 visual art pieces from UTB/TSC students, and women from across the Rio Grande Valley are on display until Friday, March 20.

Groundbreaking Set for The Arts Center
Student musicians will perform at the groundbreaking for The Arts Center, Thursday, March 20. Festivities will take place behind the Jacob Brown Auditorium in the Fort Brown Memorial Center. The public is invited to attend.

Student Volunteers Helping Taxpayers
UTB/TSC students are on Spring Break but next week they will resume providing free tax assistance at the ITEC campus. Starting Tuesday, March 18, taxpayers can get help to complete their tax returns at the ITEC campus.

Candidates Select Spots for the Ballot
Names were drawn Tuesday, March 11 to determine the order candidates will appear on the ballot for the Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees election. Voters will fill two positions in the May 10 election.

Humanities Texas Honors BHA on Saturday
As a member of the Humanities Texas Board of Directors, Dr. Juliet V. Garcia, President, will recognize the Brownsville Historical Association’s award from Humanities Texas Saturday, March 8. Earlier in the day, Humanities Texas will hold a workshop for organizations interested in grant opportunities.

Criminal Justice Institute to Graduate New Police Officers
15 cadets will graduate from the Criminal Justice Institute Friday, March 7. The new police officers will hear from Brownsville City Manager Charlie Cabler, a longtime police officer.

Catholic Campus Ministry group riding in Oblate Trail Ride 2008

A group of students will ride in the Oblate Trail Ride 2008 on Saturday, March 8. They hope to bring attention to how exercise can reduce the risk of health problems.

UTB/TSC Chess Director to Speak at National Conference
Scholastic chess is booming in Brownsville with local schools obtaining national titles, BISD elementary's touting two national champion players and UTB/TSC having two grandmasters. Now, UTB/TSC Chess Director Russell Harwood heads to the Texas Chess Association Chess in Education Workshop, Saturday, March 8, to talk about the chess phenomenon taking the area by storm.

UTB/TSC part of election excitement

Even though the elections are over, the campus is still feeling the effects of the national attention. In February, Democratic presidential candidates Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama visited the campus.

Apply for Scorpion Scholars
High school seniors in the top 10 percent of their graduating class can begin applying for the Scorpion Scholars Program. The application deadline has been extended to Friday, March 7.

It is Election Day and Remember to Vote
On this Tuesday, March 4, the campus is not a voting location but Cardenas North Hall was an early voting site. The campus also got its share of national politics as Democratic presidential candidates Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama visited the campus in February.
