Parking Lots Closed
The parking lots on either side of Taylor Drive are closed to traffic to make way for the construction of The Arts Center.

Obama speaks at UTB/TSC
Democratic presidential candidate and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama spoke to more than 150 area religious leaders on Friday, Feb. 29 at the Gran Salón. The candidate received his largest cheers when he spoke out against a proposed fence along the border.

President is Parade Marshal for Charro Days
Each year, Charro Days, Inc. recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the Brownsville community as Parade Marshal. This year, the honor goes to UTB/TSC President Dr. Juliet V. García. She will lead the parades on Friday, Feb. 29 and Saturday, March 1.

Campus to host 20th Spelling Bee
The campus will be the site for the 20th annual Rio Grande Valley Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 1. 51 spellers from across the valley will battle for a chance to compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee to be held in Washington, D. C. in May.

Early voting begins on campus
A steady stream of voters cast their ballots in the lobby of Cardenas Hall North. Early voting for the March 4 Texas Primary ends Friday, Feb. 29.

Democratic presidential candidate and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama will have an invitation-only Brownsville Prayer Meeting with local ministers at 3 p.m., Friday, Feb. 29, in the Student Union – Gran Salon at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College.

Jazz Band Arrives at the Home of the Fighting Irish
After a 27 hour bus ride, the award winning UTB/TSC One O’clock Jazz Band played Friday Feb. 22 at the 50th Annual Collegiate Jazz Festival at the University of Notre Dame.

The campus will welcome Mr. Amigo, Mexican actress and singer Angelica Vale, Thursday, Feb. 28.

New class at UTB/TSC helping freshmen overcome academic obstacles
Transitioning to college can sometimes be hard for many incoming freshman, straining not only academic but personal life, as well. In order to make that transition easier, UTB/TSC is offering NCB2000, where students can learn about technology, goal making, how to set priorities and other aspects needed to be successful in college.

Jazz Band Invited Again to Compete at Notre Dame
The One O’clock Jazz Band has been invited to participate at the 50th annual Collegiate Jazz Festival at the University of Notre Dame Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23. The grouped kicked off their tour to the festival with a concert Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Flour Bluff High School in Corpus Christi.

Jazz Band Invited Again to Compete at Notre Dame
The One O’clock Jazz Band has been invited to participate at the 50th annual Collegiate Jazz Festival at the University of Notre Dame Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23. This is the third time the band has been selected to compete at the nation's oldest jazz festival for college musicians.

The paintings of Bradley R. Petersen, a University of Texas at Austin professor will be on exhibit in the Art Gallery in the Rusteberg Building beginning Tuesday, February 19.

UTB/TSC Chess Player Becomes Grandmaster
Axel Bachmann was not only named the 2007 Sportsman of the Year in Paraguay, his home country, but he also earned the prestigious grandmaster title, all during his freshman year at college.

UTB/TSC to Host College Goal Sunday
College-bound students and their parents can meet with financial aid experts and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at College Goal Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, in the Tandy Hall Foyer.

UTB/TSC and the Maquiladoras Association Signing of Memorandum of Understanding
In the university’s continuing effort to create a bridge with Brownsville’s sister city, presidents of UTB/TSC and the Association of Maquiladoras de Matamoros signed documents on Tuesday, Feb. 12, to begin a historical collaboration.

Restoring old buildings is a passion for Larry Lof
When he is not rushing from one project to the next, leading a team of carpenters and interns, Larry Lof serves as chairman of the Brownsville Historical Association. He was in Austin to accept an award from Humanities Texas.
