Applications Being Accepted for UTB/TSC’s First Doctorate Degree in Education

While university administrators await final approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to offer its very first doctoral degree in education, the Office of Gradate Studies and the School of Education are beginning to accept applications for the program.

"The School of Education is accepting applications contingent upon final approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.  All applications will be submitted through the graduate school and once the application packet is complete, the applications will be reviewed by a School of Education admission's committee," said Dr. Carl Stockton, Dean of the School of Education.

Administrators expect to present a full doctoral proposal in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in bilingual studies to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for final approval at its July meeting. Should approval occur, the degree would become available to students this fall.

“Even though we are still months away from being able to offer this new degree, we are ready to accept applications,” said Dr. Charles Lackey, Dean of Graduate Studies. “The interest in this program has been positive. We have had over one hundred inquiries from candidates eager to apply.”

Applications are being accepted in the Office of Graduate Studies located in Champion Hall on the corner of Gorgas and May Street.
