Bio

Lucy G. Willis, a native of Brownsville, Texas, has been with UTB/TSC since 1973. She obtained her BA and MA from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas in 1970 and 1972, respectively. After fourteen years of service with then TSC, she began doctoral studies at the University of Texas at Austin and completed a PhD. in Foreign Language Education in May 1988.

Initially an ESL instructor and counselor, she has also served in the capacity of Liaison and Design Team Director for the “Challenge for Excellence” Endowment Scholarship Program as well as Director of the Young Scholars in Conference Program. She has taught Spanish for Faculty and Staff since 1994 when she initiated the program, and is currently Director of the Dual Language Certification Program that recognizes students’ bilingual/biliterate abilities.

Outside the classroom, Dr. Willis enjoys an active sports routine that includes aerobics, cycling and racquetball.

Interests:

The study of Spanish for Heritage Learners and the Folklore of the Southwest.
