COURSE DESCRIPTION:
A study of blood antigens and antibodies. Performance of routine blood banking
procedures, including blood group and Rh typing, and antibody screens, antibody
identification, cross matching, elution and absorption techniques. Lec
4, Lab 4, Cr 4
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Exhibit knowledge of blood group genetics, characteristics of the blood
group systems and the principles of immunology as they relate to Immunohematology;
evaluate the suitability of clinical specimens; list the requirements for the donation of
blood; and describe the preparation, storage, and use of blood components.
Evaluate the laboratory test outcomes; select
additional procedures to be performed; and correlate test results with patient
conditions. Describe the principles of and perform routine blood
bank tests, including blood group and Rh typing, antibody screen, antibody identification
and cross matching.
