CARDIOVASCULAR ENDURANCE REQUIREMENTS
For
Basic Skills Class
It is the opinion of the members of the Health & Human Performance Department that all Health & Human Performance majors and minors must show at least a minimum proficiency in their level of cardiovascular endurance. To be an effective physical education instructor, it is important that the instructor be able to keep up with the physical demands of the position.
Therefore, all Basic Skills students must show proof of cardiovascular endurance by one of the following methods:
Completion of the 1.5 mile walk/run to the standards below:
Male under 25 years of age, 13 min.
Male over 25 years of age, 14 min.
Female under 25 years of age, 15 min.
Female over 25 years of age, 16 min.
OR
Sustain a steady-state working heart rate of 60% of maximum heart rate for 25 minutes. (See chart below) This can be accomplished via the treadmill or the stationary bicycle. Note: Students must make arrangements with the Health & Human Performance Lab to take this test. Print the following Form
