  :: Members     ARTICLE I NAME 
UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT BROWNSVILLE AND TEXAS SOUTHMOST COLLEGE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORGANIZATION

ARTICLE II PURPOSE 
The purpose of this club is: 
to broaden knowledge of different cultures 
to promote friendship among international students and assist new foreign students in their adjustment to American college life to contribute to the well being of the community at large 

ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP 
Membership to this organization shall be open to any student attending this university who wish to promote the purposes of the organization mentioned in Article II. 

ARTICLE IV FEES/DUES 
Members shall pay dues to the treasurer each semester to help finance group activities. Amount of dues shall be determined by a majority vote of members present at the first meeting of each semester. Official club membership is contingent upon payment of dues.

ARTICLE V SPONSOR(S) 
A minimum of one full time faculty and/or a full time staff member shall be a sponsor(s) of this organization. Sponsor’s term shall be a minimum of but not limited to one academic year. It is the responsibility of the membership of this club to nominate and locate a new sponsor(s) when the sponsor(s) resign, leave or his/her term expires and the sponsorship becomes vacant. 

ARTICLE VI OFFICERS 
The titles of the offices should be President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, membership coordinator and Historian. 
A. Election/Tenure: 
Elections for officers shall take place on the first meeting of the Fall semester. Installation of officers will take place before the end of September. 
All official members must vote in person by secret ballot. If a member is not able to attend the election meeting, he/she must cast the ballot with one of the Club sponsors. 
B. Eligibility: 
Any member of the club who is in good standing is eligible for any office. 
C. Vacancies: 
If an office shall become vacant during the year, nominations maybe made from the floor to fill that office. The election will be held at that time. 
The vice president shall take over in the event the Presidency becomes vacant before the term expires. 
Any Officer may run for another position in the event an Office becomes vacant. 
D. RECALL: 
Members have the right to recall an election if the majority of the members are not satisfied with the performance of a specific elected 0fficer. Signatures must be collected and presented at a special meeting. There must be a quorum during this meeting to approve the motion. A second election will take place immediately afterwards. 

ARTICLE VII BY-LAWS 

ARTICLE I 
Duties of Officers 
Section 1 - President: It shall be the duty of the President, the Vice President to preside at all meetings of the organization and to perform all the duties usually pertaining to the office. 
Section 2 - Vice President: In the absence of the President, the Vice-President shall perform all the duties of the President. The Vice-President shall also serve as the Program Chairperson. 
Section 3 - Secretary: The Secretary shall keep the minutes of all proceedings and record the same. The Secretary shall give notice of all meetings, notify officers of election, and send names of new members to the Treasurer. The Secretary shall also keep a scrapbook and file all documents, records and \photographs related to the organization’s activities. They will perform such other duties as the office may require. Section 4 - Treasurer: The Treasurer shall receive, safely keep, and promptly deposit all funds (money) of the organization. The Treasurer shall pay out those funds only on order of the President and a sponsor of the organization. 
Section 5 - Membership Coordinator: The Membership Coordinator shall maintain a record of current members and actively encourage their attendance at meetings and activities. The Coordinator shall bring recommendations to the membership on how to recruit new members and shall coordinate all recruitment activities. 
Section 6 - Historian: The Historian shall maintain records of all the activities the club sponsors. The Historian shall keep photographs and a written narrative of the events the club participates in. 

ARTICLE II 
Committees 
The President of the organization shall be empowered to appoint such special committees as he/she deems needful at any time, or on the majority vote of the members at any meetings, he/she shall appoint committees as directed. 

ARTICLE III 
Amendments 
Those By laws may be amended at any meeting of the organization upon a two-thirds vote. A quorum must be present. 
These By laws may be suspended in case of emergency by unanimous vote of all members present at a meeting at which quorum is present.
