The Office of Internal Audits provides the following services:
Audits
Internal auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve an organization's operations. It helps an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes. Types of audits performed:
Financial: analysis of the economic activity as measured and reported by accounting methods to determine it is fairly presented and free of material misstatements.
Compliance: review of both financial and operating controls and transactions to see how well they conform to established criteria, such as laws, standards, regulations, and procedures.
Operational: a systematic review of activities in relation to specified objectives for the purposes of assessing performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, and developing recommendations for improvement or further action in a more effective and efficient way.
Information Technology: assessment of the reliability and integrity of data processed, the security and confidentiality of data, and the adequacy of backup and recovery controls.
Consulting
Consulting services are advisory in nature, and are generally performed at the specific request of an engagement client. The nature and scope of the consulting engagement are subject to agreement with the engagement client. Consulting services generally involve two parties: (1) the person or group offering the advice - the internal auditor, and (2) the person or group seeking and receiving the advice - the engagement client.
Training: type of consulting work performed includes training in internal controls and account reconciliations.
Investigations
Performed in coordination with Campus Police in an effort to deter fraud.
