Donations

Donations will be accepted by the Manager of Special Collections. Acknowledgements will be sent by the Director of the Library. The donation will be described by the library, but the value for tax purposes is the responsibility of the donor, as the library is considered an interested party by the IRS.

The Hunter Room serves as a repository for the History of South Texas and Northern Mexico. Particular attention is paid to the UTB/TSC service area of Cameron and Willacy counties. We are actively preserving books, papers, photographs, videos, artifacts, and related ephemera. The history of the development of the current UTB/TSC partnership is a high priority, as is the Mexican War and the military history of Fort Brown. Purchases will be made to reflect these guidelines. Gifts are also encouraged that reflect these goals.

The Hunter Room also serves as a closed-stacks collection for items that would be endangered in the main stacks of the library. Thus, collecting interests also include items that would be of scholarly value to students, staff, and faculty of the UTB/TSC community. Gifts will also be accepted to meet these goals.

Pictures of Early 20th Century Military Gear, a mid 19th century Map of Mexico, two Amerindian Statues and a Patio set owned by J.T. Canales all of which were donated to the Hunter Room.
