What tests do I have to take?
All Graduate Programs except MBA require that students take the GRE. MBA students must take the GMAT. International Students must also take the TOEFL
Can I take classes before being admitted?
Students must apply to the graduate program before taking any graduate classes.
What is my admission status?

I have applied and still haven't heard anything, what is happening?
Contact the Graduate Office (548-6552) to verify that your application was received and processed there.
How can I request conditional status?
Conditional status is not something that can be requested. Once a student submits a complete application, they may be granted a provisional status by Graduate Admissions depending on departmental criteria.
Can I take courses before having taken the GRE/GMAT/TOEFL?
Some degree programs will allow provisional admission for the first semester so that students can submit their test scores. Some degree programs, however, require that these test scores be submitted before ANY classes can be taken. Please contact your departmental advisor for more information on your particular degree program requirements.
Can I take classes if I am an ACP student without applying?
No, ACP students must also apply to the graduate program before taking graduate classes.

Where do I go to submit my application packet?
Application packets are to be submitted to the Graduate Office. The Graduate Office is located in Champion Hall, 1st Floor.
Can I transfer courses?
Yes, up to 12 hours can be transferred with approval of your advisor. Students are encouraged to transfer these courses as early on as possible, since the last 12 hours towards a degree must be taken in residence here at UTB.

What is a full load, part time?
During Fall and Spring, 9 hours constitute a full load. 5 hours are required for halftime enrollment. During Summer, five (5) hours are considered full time and seven (7) hours is the maximum. Three (3) hours is considered halftime for each summer session.
How do I request an overload (More hours than a full load)?
To request an overload, you must first request the approval of your academic advisor, and then contact the Office of Graduate Studies at 548-6552.

How do I get departmental approval to take a course?What does it mean when the registration system asks me to petition for a course?
Sometimes seating in a particular course is reserved for majors pertaining to that course. Contact the department offering the course and a registration bar can be lifted to allow you to register.

What is the difference between an MAIS and MA?
A MAIS has one area of concentration with two (or more) supporting fields while a MA specializes in one subject area (English or Spanish)

Is there financial aid available for graduate students?
The graduate office does offer graduate tuition assistance scholarships. Contact the Office of Graduate Studies or your appropriate dean's office to request an application.
What does this scholarship pay for?
Up to 3 hours of tuition, not including fees for spring, summer, and fall semesters, for a total of 18 hours per year. Please note, only three hours of tuition assistance are available for the entire summer session. If you are interested in Federal Aid, you must fill out a FAFSA form and contact the office of Financial aid to receive Federal assistance.
