“Year of the Trumpet” at UTB/TSC

The stars have aligned for the 2007-2008 academic year at UTB/TSC. Trumpeters, trumpet students, and lovers of the trumpet will be excited to know that the university will be hosting three of the world’s greatest trumpet artists:  Arturo Sandoval, Crispian Stelle-Perkins, (Baroque trumpet) and Charles Schlueter.
 

Arturo Sandoval, trumpet

CONCERT - Sept. 7, 2007 at 8pm - Jacob Brown Auditorium

There is no bigger star in jazz trumpet than Arturo Sandoval. Mr. Sandoval’s long and distinguished career has earned him four Grammy awards, six Billboard awards and an Emmy award. On Friday, September 7, 2007, Sandoval and his band will perform a concert for the UTB/TSC Arts and Entertainment series at the Jacob Brown Auditorium at 8:00 pm. In addition, Mr. Sandoval will give a free clinic for trumpeters and trumpet students at the SET-B Lecture Hall. If you would like to purchase tickets to the concert, please follow this link

Crispian Steele-Perkins,
Baroque trumpet

MASTERCLASS - (Mon. March 24, 2007 - 3:30 - 5pm) - SET-B Lecture Hall

Crispian Steele-Perkins is the world’s leading performer on the Baroque, or natural, trumpet and other early trumpets. He has an extensive collection of historical instruments, all of which he plays and many of which he will bring with him to our campus. He will perform a concert under the auspices of the Patron of the Arts Series on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the SETB Lecture Hall at 8:00 pm. Mr. Steele-Perkins will also give a clinic and demonstration of his historical trumpets on Monday, March 24, 2007, at 3:30pm, also at the SETB Lecture Hall. This session will be free to trumpeters, trumpet students and any others interested in the trumpet or historical musical performance. Charles Schlueter, trumpet

 

 

CONCERT - Th. Apr. 3, 2008 at 8pm - McAllen Civic Center
MASTERCLASS - Tu. Apr. 1, 2008 (2 - 5pm) - SET-B Lecture Hall

Charles Schlueter is well-known as one of the leading orchestral trumpeters of our time. He has just retired from 25 years as Principal Trumpet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Previously he was Principal Trumpet with the Minnesota Orchestra, The Milwaukee Symphony, the Kansas City Philharmonic and Associate Principal Trumpet in the Cleveland Orchestra under George Szell. On Tuesday, April 1, 2008, Mr. Schlueter will give a trumpet Master Class at the SETB Lecture Hall at 2 pm. University and high school students will perform for Mr. Schlueter and will receive comments and suggestions for improving their playing skills. In addition, while he is in the Valley, Mr. Schlueter will perform with the Valley Symphony Orchestra on Thursday, April 3 at 8:00 pm at the McAllen Civic Center.
